[In honor of your visit to NYC, ickleruthiekins, I'm posting pictures from your visit from nearly 2 years ago!! Can't wait to see you again. :) ]

So ickleruthiekins came to visit, and we had a great time! Given the end of school, I had lots more time to hang out. First stop, Totto Ramen. Read the full post →

from Totto Ramen in Hell’s Kitchen

Started off the day at Matchbox Chinatown with Am for brunch. Incredible huevos rancheros.

Afterwards, we made our way to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to check out the silent dance party, but by the time we got there, they had already closed it down due to a “suspicious package being left at the steps.” Total lie. I can’t believe they lied to us. Read the full post →

the basic

Finally made it to D’s spot for ramen — Minca. I got the “Basic” — pork broth, salt & roast garlic flavor. It was far too “glutinous” for me. I like fatty things, but sort of felt like they used tapioca starch in the soup base. The noodles were decent and meat was good though.

It reminded me a bit of Ryowa in Berkeley, though I’d say not as good at Ryowa before they changed management in recent years. But Ryowa has a special place in my heart… oh, the buttercorn ramen!!! We also got the pork gyoza to share.

And though you may disagree (looks at D), Totto is still my fav. Forever and ever and ever (until I find a better bowl)!!!

Post-most-finals hangout with Orangina! After brunch at Kitchenette, we shopped around Upper East Side and had a mid-afternoon snack at Menchanko-Tei.

As a sidenote to Li, I ordered the St. John and I got the dish you mentioned without the green sauce! I’m sad that maybe they changed up the recipe…

R’s chige miso menchanko. (I think that’s the right one, right?)

And my delicious hakata ramen (J and I got the same one): “Ultra thin ramen noodles in a rich pork broth topped with simmered pork slices, black mushrooms, red ginger, and scallions.”

We grabbed some delicious Joe’s coffee in Grand Central station afterwards. The soy latte may have been the best one I’ve had yet (next to Bouchon’s). After putting off my biostats paper for long enough, I headed home, hammered out the paper, and got to bed early for my dreaded 15k in the morn.
